Nikkor 50mm 1.8G, ISO100, 0.6 seconds, f/11.
365.21 Ohne Titel
I was looking for some sort of nice surrealistic title, something from a de Chirico painting or something, or maybe a nice Fire Marshall Bill quote, but I couldn’t find anything that fit.
Today’s 365 was brought to you by the 75-150mm E Series (not reversed, and not on 49mm of extensions), zoomed in to abou 140mm, from about 4 feet away, and shot at ISO100 for 1.6 seconds, f/5.6.
365.20 Ivan vs. the LensBaby
I was feeling a bit worn out, creatively speaking, and had no idea what I wanted to shoot for the 365, so I strapped on the LensBaby and forced myself to shoot around.
And I ended up with this nice shot of Ivan, and it marks two firsts for the 365! 1) it’s the first picture of a cat. I’ll try not to shoot the cats too much, but there will be at least one more, as Olive needs her time to shine too! And 2) the first use of on-camera flash. Don’t get excited, it was just the pop-up, diffused with ye olde film canister trick. One of my goals for 2012 is to get more competent with flash, and so there will likely be considerably more flash work in the future, as I experiment and play with the SB-700.
So, the details: D7000, LensBaby Muse (Plastic Element), ISO100, 1/40th, f/2, pop-up diffused with a film canister and ‘dialed down’ to 1/8th, and -33ev. Good times.
365.19 D7000 Family Portrait
Families the world over are glad they didn’t pay me to take a family portrait today…
365.19 D7000 Family Portrait, versions 1 & 2
On the left: Nikkor 50mm 1.8G, Nikkor 10-24 3.5-4.5G, and wacky Auntie Holga.
On the right: Nikon 75-150mm f/3.5 E Series, Nikon 36-72mm f/3.5 E Series, and the LensBaby Muse.
Center: D7000 and his trusty sidekick Sigma 30mm f/1.4.
ISO100, 6 seconds, f/16.
It was a pain getting everything (sort of) in focus. Kinda hard when the main subject is about 3 feet away from the rest of the group… Is that the way mirrors work in photos? Is it focusing as if the thing in the mirror was twice as far away as everything else? I have no idea about these things, but that seems simultaneously wildly unlikely and completely spot on, so maybe someone out there has a clue. But I know I couldn’t get everything in focus at f/5.6, f/8, or f/11, and the only explanation I can come up with is that the image in the mirror is twice as far away as everything else.
I like version 1 better (the sepia-toned one), but I almost like the sloppy photoshop work in version 2…
Anyway, this whole shoot took 3 hours.
Yes, 3 hours.
I totally shoulda pulled out the flash and umbrella and styrofoam softbox thingy, but I kept thinking the next one would be the one…
Oh. And if I owned an iron, the backdrop wouldn’t have creases or wrinkles all in it. Alas.
365.18 It’s a LensBaby, baby!
Had Christmas with Momma today, and got exactly what I asked for: a LensBaby Muse with a plastic optic…
Can you say ‘Bokeh?’ Wow.
The little toy is sure hard to focus, but wow! is it ever fun to play around with! I’m looking forward to getting lots more use out of the Muse. (And I got the macro kit to go with it: 10x & 4x magnification. Should also be fun, when the weather gets too chilly to hang around outside.)
50mm LensBaby (plastic), ISO 800 (I was playing with it inside earlier, and forgot to crank down the ISO: thank goodness for the low noise on the D7000!), 1/1600, f/2.8 drop-in ring.
365.17 Entropy
Find a Penny, Pick it Up, and All the Day, You’ll Have Good Luck!
I don’t know if that applies to these pennies, which have seen far, far better days.
I may try this again at some point, and make these pennies more imposing, have them hover over something, like the coming of the aliens in whatever movie that was…
ISO100, 1.6 seconds, f/22.
Hipstamatic Disposable update 6 – the failure that was the BlacKeys 44 camera
You might have noticed the complaint about saving speed and the misleading “Saved!” pop-up that I copied and pasted into the four updates to this series that I posted today.
If not: DO NOT BELIEVE THE ‘SAVED!’ POP-UP THAT POPS UP WHEN YOU TELL HIPSTAMATIC D TO SAVE A CAMERA ROLL TO THE CAMERA ROLL!!!
And especially do not delete the camera from Hipstamatic D before you verify all images have been saved to the camera roll!
Otherwise, you’re likely to end up with only three shots, like I did. GRRRR.
Here are the three, and I’ll update this post whenever I get around to shooting another one of these cameras.
I like the B/W effect, and I like the border, and it’s a DAMNED SHAME that I deleted the roll before the app got around to transferring all the pictures to the iPhone’s camera roll. A damned shame.
Of course, it’s my fault as much as the app’s, and I’ll still recommend the app: it’s made a place for itself on my shoot screen, and isn’t tucked away in a folder like Incredibooth, or deleted from the phone entirely and languishing in the iTunes app folder like SwankoLab, but it also hasn’t made it into the hallowed hall that is the iPhone dock, like its namesake…
