وَالْعَصْرِ

By time

إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ

Indeed all of humanity is in a state of loss

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ

Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

Surah Al Asr

It seems sort of obvious that those that don’t believe, perform bad deeds, and/or lie and encourage others to lie would be clearly lost, but Allah has included the impatient and those who encourage impatience, rash action, etc. A’udhu Billah! (Allah protect us!)

Ya Allah, make me more patient, grant me patience, and guide me to encourage patience in my brothers and sisters (in Islam and in humanity).

WalAAasr.

Inna al-insana lafee khusr.

Illa allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati watawasaw bilhaqqi watawasaw bissabr.

Alhamdulillah, Allah has blessed me with some patience… It’s enough to shoot a roll of film over a month or two, develop the film by hand, find that a couple of decent shots came out, push them to the website, then go back a month or so later and find that some issue with Lightroom caused all the edits in the scanned files to go *poof* and not completely lose it, smash the computer etc. It’s enough to order a gift for my wife for Mother’s Day, receive no word about it for a full month, inquire to the seller, be assured that it would ship no later than June 10, and find that it still has not arrived come July 5, and not get angry at the seller. It’s easily enough to fast, day after day, for all of Ramadan, and for some/many other days throughout the year, in sha’Allah seeking only Allah’s reward.

But it’s not enough. May Allah grant me ever more patience; may He make me slow to anger and slower to wrath; may He keep me upon the truth and fill my heart with the sweetness, independence, and peace of la ilaha il Allah. Amin.
