Wasps are in the what now?

I didn’t expect to see any pollination going on today… after all, this neighborhood is very new, and I’ve not seen anything in the way of bees around.

Imagine my surprise when I saw this little guy happily munching on this onion flower.

Did you have any idea that wasps are competent pollinators?

Who knew?

And did you know onions put out these crazy flowers?

SubhanaAllah! Alhamdulillah! Allahu Akbar!

Also included is a roughly 2:1 crop to show what the Petzval is capable of at f/5.6. Not bad, for an outdated lens design and some poor manual focusing skills…

D7000. Lomography X Zenit Petzval 85mm f/2.2. ISO100, AP Mode, f/5.6. Minor processing in Lightroom 5, and the 2:1 crop done in Photoshop CS6, as there doesn’t seem to be a way to crop to a specific pixel dimension in Lightroom, not one that I could find on short notice, anyway.
