Nothing Ever Happens 1 and 2 are small, one-page zines from Nathan Pearce‘s series of the same name, and currently available from Halfmoon Projects. I don’t know about you, but if guns, keggers, 2 dbl cheeseburgers for $3.99 at Donnie & Connie’s Burger Haven, brush fires, grinning dogs, and velvet paintings of Jesus, peace be upon him, are part of the “nothing” that ever happens, I’d be interested to see what “something” looked like…

https://youtu.be/9eEwGMI_U80 These little zines are beautifully printed on 11×14 sheets of rather heavy, smooth paper, and there’s a quality to them that belies their humble design. In thinking about making my own zines, I’ve tended to stay away from this single-page thing, but these make me think again. With “pages” that measure roughly 3.5″ x 5.5″, photographs are large enough to view comfortably, and the centerfold is big enough to become a poster fairly easily. This is much better/more comfortable than the 2.75″ x 4″ of a normal 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet, but probably does require a fancier printer than many people have at home, though the local Kinko’s is probably a cheaper choice for most of us, anyway, as long as we can get the color we’re looking for from them. I continue to appreciate Pearce’s work. The mix of black & white and color work in these two zines work well together. The description on the Halfmoon Projects pages read “Drug store disposable camera, drug store developing, drug store scans and drug store drugs,” so I’m interested in the drug stores Pearce visits… My local CVS and Walgreens don’t stock the Ilford or Lomography disposables: I’m a bit jealous.

These little zines are beautifully printed on decent paper, and for $3/each they’re a steal. Overall, I’d give them both 4.3 stars.

At time of writing Nothing Ever Happens, vol. 1 and vol. 2 are available at Halfmoon Projects. No word on the edition sizes, but grab them up before they’re gone!
